Amsterdam Light Festival

The 13th edition of the Amsterdam Light Festival, Rituals, took place from Thursday, November 28, 2024, to Sunday, January 19, 2025. During this unique event, the canals of Amsterdam were illuminated with extraordinary light artworks by both national and international artists. The city shone with works by, among others, Javier Riera, known for his magical light projections on urban and natural landscapes.

The façade of Grand Hotel Amrâth Amsterdam was the first object of the festival, offering our guests a unique experience as part of this enchanting spectacle.

Edition 13: Rituals

The Amsterdam Light Festival coincides with the city's 750th anniversary. This edition revolves around rituals, in which light plays a crucial role in connecting people. See the beautiful works of art from the water or from the land.

Amsterdam Light Festival 2024

The famous historic Scheepvaarthuis is one of the 27 light art installations featured in the light art route. During the winter months, Amsterdam transforms into a beautiful open-air museum, where you can enjoy these light artworks by boat or on foot.

From Thursday, November 28, 2024 through Sunday, January 19, 2025, admire the Amsterdam Light Festival. Experience the atmospheric lighting along Amsterdam's canals every evening between 17:00 and 23:00.

Artist Javier Riera

During the 2024 Amsterdam Light Festival, Grand Hotel Amrâth Amsterdam proudly presents the light art of Spanish artist Javier Riera (ES, 1964). Riera studied Fine Arts in Salamanca and completed his education with the Contemporary Art Workshops at El Círculo de Bellas Artes in Madrid. His career focused mainly on painting until 2008. 

From that point onward, he exhibited for the first time with altered landscape photography at the Reina Sofía National Museum and Art Center. Riera's contemporary work is based on geometric light projections directly projected onto the foliage and landscape.
